Massage In Schools Programme- promoting Empathy, Respect & Wellness

I was so excited to start teaching The Massage In Schools Programme to second class in St Mary National School. I had already introduced myself to the children that week so it wasn't such a big deal on the first day.

There was great excitement the morning I arrived and I could hear the children saying 'thats the massage lady' as they paired up and waited excitedly for my instructions. One little girl didn't want to take part so I reassured her that she didn't have to and gave her the responsibility of helping me with the massage cards. She was delighted with herself and took great pride in standing at the top of the class while I called out the massage strokes.

Each session was so rewarding for me and it was great to see the children's confidence  and respect growing over several  weeks. The boys were fantastic as they asked each other for permission and the girls waited patiently to begin. Each week the children were excited to learn the new strokes so that they could do the whole routine together from start to finish.

The Massage In Schools Programme is a research based, internationally  recognised programme and is 100% permission based. It is received and given through the childrens clothes to the head, shoulders, back, arms and hands. The programme promotes respect and empathy, improves concentration and has had great results in shcools as part of their anti-bullying campaign.
